    Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack

    The Safe Schools Declaration is a non-binding intergovernmental political commitment launched in May 2015 at an international conference in Oslo, Norway, through a process led by the governments of Norway and Argentina with broad consultations among United Nations member states. It commits endorsing states to protect students, teachers, schools, and universities from attack and military use during armed conflict, to collect data on such attacks, investigate violations, support victims, and integrate protection measures into national policy and military doctrine. The initiative has been supported by UN leaders and international organizations and, as of late 2025, 122 states worldwide have endorsed it, forming a global community committed to safeguarding education in conflict settings.

    The report assesses the real-world status of children’s rights across 36 European countries, drawing on data from 84 member organisations. It finds that despite legal commitments, child poverty, social exclusion, and lack of access to basic services remain widespread, especially for vulnerable groups, and ongoing discrimination and anti-rights movements threaten progress. The report covers key issues such as child protection, justice contact, mental health, migration and minority status, and digital rights, and offers concrete policy recommendations—like ending child poverty, strengthening protection systems, ensuring adequate housing and social safety nets, and reinforcing the European Child Guarantee—to move from rights on paper to rights in practice.

    Report on the rights of Ukrainian children affected by the full-scale invasion

    The report was developed in close cooperation with Ukrainian children to ensure that young people’s voices and experiences were directly reflected in the findings. The report highlights how the ongoing war has gravely affected children’s rights, documenting large-scale violations such as attacks on schools and hospitals, mass displacement, family separation, and the unlawful deportation of children to Russian-occupied areas. Central findings show that while Ukraine has taken steps to align with international child rights standards, many children still lack access to education, health care, and psychosocial support, and face systemic obstacles in justice and protection services. The report calls for urgent reforms, stronger national child protection systems, and sustained international cooperation to guarantee that all children in Ukraine can live safely, learn, and recover from the impacts of war. Beitrag in deutscher Sprache: Der Bericht wurde in enger Zusammenarbeit mit ukrainischen Kindern erstellt, um die Stimmen und Erfahrungen junger Menschen in den Bericht einzubringen. Der Bericht hebt hervor, wie der anhaltende Krieg die Rechte der Kinder massiv verletzt, und dokumentiert  Verstöße wie Angriffe auf Schulen und Krankenhäuser, Massenvertreibungen, Familientrennungen und die rechtswidrige Deportation von Kindern in von Russland besetzte Gebiete. Die zentralen Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Ukraine zwar Schritte unternommen hat, um sich an internationale Kinderrechtsstandards anzupassen, viele Kinder jedoch nach wie vor keinen Zugang zu Bildung, Gesundheitsversorgung und psychosozialer Unterstützung haben und mit systemischen Hindernissen bei der Justiz und dem Kinderschutz konfrontiert sind. Der Bericht fordert dringende Reformen, stärkere nationale Kinderschutzsysteme und eine nachhaltige internationale Zusammenarbeit, um zu gewährleisten, dass alle Kinder in der Ukraine sicher leben, lernen und sich von den Auswirkungen des Krieges erholen können.     Approximately 473 million children worldwide—about one in every six—were impacted by armed conflicts in 2024, according to estimates from the NGO Save the Children. The report emphasizes that children’s rights must be upheld regardless of the circumstances, including during armed conflicts. Key findings include the widespread recruitment and use of children in hostilities, exposure to sexual violence, abductions, attacks on schools and hospitals, and displacement that disrupts education and family life. The report highlights the urgent need for accountability mechanisms, stronger international cooperation, and integration of child protection into peacebuilding and humanitarian efforts. It stresses that protecting children’s rights is not optional, and that governments, international organizations, and local actors must prioritize these measures to ensure the safety, well-being, and dignity of children in conflict zones.     Childism. Confronting Prejudice Against Children

Mit Zitaten aus über 500 Jahren und aus vielen Teilen der Welt macht es sichtbar, wie Menschen sich gegen Kolonialismus, Rassismus, Ausbeutung oder Ausgrenzung gewehrt haben – und wie diese Kämpfe bis heute weiterwirken. Diese vielfältigen Sichtweisen helfen, die Vergangenheit kritisch zu verstehen, Leerstellen zu füllen und neue Ideen für eine gerechtere Zukunft zu entwickeln. Entwickelt wurde das Handbuch im Rahmen des Erasmus+-Projekts von 2022 bis 2025 durch den Bundesverband Theaterpädagogik (BuT), Jugendliche und Fachkräfte aus Deutschland sowie Partnerorganisationen aus Frankreich, Griechenland, Portugal, Nordmazedonien und dem Kinder- und Jugendtheater Dortmund.
