The EU Platform for Child Participation strengthens the voice of children and helps them to contribute to decision-making at EU level. The platform helps children and young people under the age of 18 to get in touch and talk to politicians and decision-makers. They discuss issues that affect their lives and exercise their rights as EU citizens. Children have the right to share their thoughts, feel safe and be cared for. These rights are set out in Article 24 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU.

To fulfill this obligation, the EU has created a plan called the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child based on feedback from 10,000 children. The plan, which was created with and for children, contains measures to protect the rights of all children in the EU. The Platform was set up in response to an important point in the Plan for the Rights of the Child: the right of children to participate in political and democratic life.

The Platform is an initiative that works at EU and national level to provide a safe space for children to have their say in important decisions. The Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day work of the Platform. It consists of a group of partners and experts, such as Save the Children and SOS Children's Villages, who bring together their professional skills and expertise on child participation.

Child participation organizations based in the EU and their networks of children and young people can become members of the platform. Further information can be found on the website.
